ITIN Renewals and New ITINs Are Available in Jerusalem or Tel Aviv

Americans and American tax reporters are not all born as American citizens. Some are naturalized American citizens, people who became American citizens during their lifetimes.

Naturalized American citizens also have to file American tax returns the same as American born citizens. Then, we have “lawful permanent residents” who either have, have had, or are eligible to have had a green card for permanent American residency. Lawful permanent residents also have to file American tax returns, but they file as non American-citizens and they may not always have to report on all their income that is outside of America the way citizens do. Then, there are those “temporary lawful residents” who either visited on a visa to America or who have invested in America so then must file their American tax returns as non residents.

American born citizens have social security numbers. For everyone else, who may apply for a social security number it may take a lot of time and very much effort. That’s why the IRS allows those people who file tax returns who don’t have – or cannot obtain – social security numbers to apply for (and receive) ITIN numbers for filing their tax reports to America. This goes for your spouse and your children, too. If you want them included on your American tax, return they need ITINs just the same as you do.

The best way to attain an ITIN is to apply for one (or renew the one you have) at the very same time you file your American tax return. The only difference is you cannot eFile, you have to file by paper. To apply for (or renew) your ITIN, you can send your original Israeli passport to the IRS and then hope it comes back to you very quickly ! Or, you can stop in to one of Weinstein offices – either in Jerusalem here or in Tel Aviv – and bring us your original Israeli passport or other original documents. If you make an appointment with us, we will certify your ITIN while you wait. Then we can prepare your tax return and send it off with it. There’s no need any more to send your original passport to the IRS.

How great is that !

If you apply for (or renew) your ITN, we will package up your tax return in such a way that it will be filed with your original signature and put in the mail to the proper IRS Center, where your ITIN will be renewed and issued along with the processing of your tax return to make it easy. It is most important to renew if your ITIN has not been used in the last 3 years. Also, if you got a CP-48 Notice you need to renew your ITIN so – come in here !

ITINs are made in the number format the same as social security numbers, which go like this:

FFF-MM-LLLL

(these letters stand for the following: first digits, middle digits, and last digits).

ITINs with the following middle digits have already expired and are no longer good any more. If you have one of these middle digits you have to renew right away. If your ITIN has in the middle:

73, 74, 75, 76, 77, 81, 82, or

even older ones:

70, 71, 72, 78, 79, 80:

These are expired also and need to be renewed right away. (If you don’t plan on reporting to America you don’t need an ITIN and you don’t need to renew your ITIN.) However, we take the fear out of it and make ITIN applications easy for you because when you might have been forced to send your original documents to the IRS and let them keep your original passport for 60 days or more, now you can come to Weinstein for an hour and let us certify your documents here in Jerusalem. Apply for your ITIN when and where you need it !

ITIN applications made easy!
